Download, Stream Torrents Over HTTP With Fetch.io

Fetch.io is a new media storage and download service that allows users to download torrents to a remote server at super high speeds, and then download or stream the files over HTTP to any device. In addition to BitTorrent, Fetch.io also supports fetching files from RapidShare, Megaupload, Hotfile, Mediafire and others.

Normally when you download torrents, you are downloading through the BitTorrent protocol which is different from HTTP used when you surf the web in your browser, watch videos on YouTube or download files through a download manager. Today, many Torrent search engines offer alternative means to download Torrents such as over HTTP and magnet links. Each have their own merits.

Downloading over HTTP is preferred when:

• ISPs throttle torrent downloads

• Office networks restrict use of P2P software

• Users have limited upload capacity, like data caped ADSL line or low upload speed. 

• Devices cannot run Bittorrent clients 

• Users don’t understand torrents

Fetch.io’s approach is different. Users paste the URL to the torrent and Fetch.io downloads it to their servers from the swarm. Once the download is finished, users can transfer it to their computer, or stream it directly from the remote server if it’s a video file. Actually, Fetch.io isn’t the first one to offer this – Torrific (previously BTaccel) does this.

But Fetch.io does more.



If the file fetched from BitTorrent is a video file, it will be automatically encoded into flash and MP4 format a few minutes after the download has finished. This allows the files to be streamed and played on various mobile devices and media players. Besides BitTorrent, Fetch.io can also handle downloads from various popular download sites such as MediaFire, Rapidshare, MegaUpload, Hotfile, and Fileserve.

Right now Fetch.io is in beta during which users can get 20 GB of storage and 40 GB of bandwidth for free. Once the program's out of beta, Fetch.io will launch paid accounts, so better signup while it lasts.
